A Controversy Analysis Argument/Public Argument Letter written to an important figure associated with the topic.

There are three elements of this assignment:

PART ONE: Presentation of Public Argument: 45% – You will be choosing one side or perspective from you Controversy Analysis essay and arguing this perspective in the form of a Public Argument. Your Public Argument should be geared toward a specific audience or demographic, and should be geared toward a realistic setting in which this argument might actually be presented or relevant in real life, outside of the context of our classroom. You will (in most cases) choose to adopt the voice or “persona” in your Public Argument / Presentation of your Public Argument of an expert concerned or invested in the side of your controversy that you are arguing.

If you choose to use yourself as a persona, you will need to address this in your reflection.

You will also want to consider who your audience is and what their values are when creating your Public Argument presentation. (Ex. The president writing to congress, a famous political cartoonist drawing cartoons for The New York Times, a cigarette company creating an advertisement for a specific cable network, etc.) You may choose to be as creative as you’d like, as long as your public argument is framed in a realistic manner. At the beginning of your presentation, you will tell the class briefly who your persona is, and who your hypothetical audience is. You will be required to use two sources from your original research done for the Controversy Analysis Essay in your Public Argument in order to persuade your intended audience of your argument or viewpoint. Some ideas for Public Arguments:

A persuasive letter: to a political figure, an organization or group, a company, an individual invested in the controversy, etc.

The writer I receive may choose to write on any controversy analysis topic. For example, they could use an argument such as professional athletes being overpaid, gun control, etc…please let me know if this doesn’t make sense. I will be sending an example of what I need as well.
