Academic context and background (about 500 words):

Innovation is described as the process through which new and problem solving ideas are brought into good use. The ideas are dynamic as they touch on various aspects such as cost cutting, reorganizing and establishment of new budgetary systems (Hjalager, 2010; Pikkemaat, 2009). It also caters for the enhancement of communication as well as assembling staff members who will make the team that leads the innovation. Innovation is not only a driver of the economy but it also associated to newness.

The study of innovation in the hotel industry is an emerging field as there is no enough literature on this area. There is a significant difference between a standard hotel that retain the old customer service models as compared to the innovative type that responds to new dynamics in the hotel industry to meet customer needs. Hjalager (2010), shows that it is important to note that even traditional hotels introduce new things in their operations, but this does not qualify them to be innovative hotels. For any venture in a hotel to be said to be innovative it must meet certain criteria (Chesbrough, 2011).

For a long time, most authors have limited themselves to the description of innovation that only focuses on the new good introduced. The literature also focused on the introduction of new production methods or even the opening of a new market. Traditional innovation also focused on the repositioning of a specific hotel in the market industry (Tajeddini, 2009). However, current literature has defined four areas that are now the focus of innovation. These include change in processes, the product/service, marketing, and organizational innovation (Tidd & Bessant, 2009).

The area of innovations in hotels is still emerging and is note as extensively researched as it should be. In order to shed more light on this area, it is necessary to conduct an empirical research. Bearing in mind that innovations drive competition in the hotel business, it is important that more studies are carried out in this area so as to help the hotels to grow. (Verma & Smith 2010), assert that the outcomes will also benefit the hotel regulatory bodies so as to develop policies that stimulate innovations among the hotels.

Your research aim and objectives (about 200 words):

The aim of the study is to establish how the standard hotel differs from the innovative hotel and which type hotel likely dominates the future’s hospitality industry. In order to achieve this, the research will seek to answer the questions that regarding what is new in terms of product or service, as well as processes. The factor that is found to be new will also be further evaluated to figure out how new it is, and the customer how to accept or prefer it. Thus a comparison will be made to evaluate the newness or traditionnal highlights in different regions would help the company make the long term strategic development or not such as profitable effect or brand effect (Pikkemaat, 2009). And to evaluate how innovation paly the key role on the future hospitability industry. It will also be evaluated on the basis of how other factors impact the hotel industrial future’s development such as technology, environment and culture. Thus to analysis which type hotel could make transformation and integration to quick response marketing needs.

Objectives

The main objective of the research is to evaluate the future tendency between standard hotels and innovative hotels. The specific objectives of the research include:

1. To define the concept of innovation as used in the hotel industry.

2. To describe the difference between the standard hotel and the innovative hotel.

3. To evaluate the different Chinese region’s development status between the standard hotel and the innovative hotel.

Methods (about 200 words):

There have been challenges in measuring innovations in an empirical manner. As such, the study will adopt the questionnaire (internet, paper) in the study (Tidd & Bessant, 2009). Due to the criticism that the questionnaire has faced the in the recent years, it will be adapted so as to suit the study and eliminate the deficiencies. Following an extensive literature review, it has been concluded that the adaptions made on the questionnaire are the best for the intended purpose. The research design will combine both qualitative and quantitative designs (Tajeddini, 2009). Permission will be sought from all the participants, and those who give consent are the only ones who will participate in the study. A randomized control will be used to include participants in the study. The criteria for inclusion will be those hotels that have operated for a period of more than 5 years. And also this study will use Chinese hotels as samples.

Presentation of the research findings will take various forms. These include data tables, graphs, pie charts as well as line graphs. A word report will also accompany the results that obtained. The analysis of these results will be made using appropriate statistical software. The analysis will control for error.
