An Argumentative Essay on why the future will be different from the present

The rate at which times are changing is so fast that the future will certainly be different from the present. The changes that will take place are going to be witnessed in several if not all aspects of our social lives. This is because of several factors that are catalyzing change in these different areas. It is first of all important to mention the areas of our lives which will witness the greatest changes. These are education, family relationships and society in general. The catalysts are technological advancements and globalization.

Technology has mainly contributed to societal changes by changing the way people interact over great distances. In the past the telephone was the only method of interaction and the expense of long distance communication meant that its use was restricted mainly to relevant information. Television and radio channels were also mainly localized. What this meant was that acculturation or the adoption of new culture by different communities was taking place at a snail’s pace. Societal tendencies and values were largely localized and subjective to the different populations. Today however we have the internet. This has completely revolutionalized the manner in which people interact. Social networking sites such as facebook, YouTube and Twitter have become platforms for people to freely interact across continents. What this then does is expose people to different cultures at a much faster rate with greater frequency. When this happens, acculturation occurs much faster as the young people adopt what they believe is popular. This is already leading to the popularity of things like divorce which was somewhat of a taboo in the past. The number of single parent households is therefore also increasing. The manner in which children interact with their parents is also changing very fast. As a result of this, future society which is based on the family, will have completely transformed.

Globalization too is shaping the future through the reduction of boundaries between countries and continents. The main way this is being manifested is through increased international trade as well as increasing international travel. This is done by people who travel to other countries to pursue business as well as academic prospects. This will primarily affect education since economies are transforming from being locally focused to regionally and globally oriented systems. What this then means is that the education that students of the future will get will be one that prepares them for employment or entrepreneurship in a global market. There will be a concerted efforts by education systems and educators to harmonize some elements of education so as to ensure seamlessness in the materials being presented to students.

With changes in education and society, the world of the future will most definitely be a pale shadow of what we see today. This is because people’s knowledge and their interactions will undoubtedly be altered. At the same time, the variations that previously existed between cultures will have been ironed out since the element of universality will have greatly pervaded.
