The paper assignment will be double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, 5-6 pages and must be on one of the following topics:

Topic #1:

Tolstoy said that in Anna Karenina he wanted to portray a woman who was not guilty, but only pitiable. Does he achieve this? How or how not? Support your answer by references to specific wording from the novel and by using concepts from the Psychology readings.

OR

Topic #2:

By paying attention to specific word choice applied to the different characters in the novel and by using concepts from Psychology readings and lectures, describe the differences between the relationship of the two main couples of the novel: Levin and Kitty, Anna and Vronsky.
