Project description
you will compose a 1,500 word essay that engages the text of Romans 15:7 in light of your particular vocation. In other words, how is your work a particular means of welcoming one another as God has welcomed you?

This reflection essay is designed to give you the opportunity to think about your vocation through the lens of Romans. Classically, Christians have used the word vocation in two senses. The general vocation of all human beings is to bear the image of God. The particular vocation for human beings is the specific way the general human vocation is enacted in a given context. In our case, we will be thinking about the particular vocation of your work in the world.

The formal requirements of the essay are as follows:
1.The essay must answer the following questions: a.For Paul in Romans, the application of the letter can be summed up in the text, Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. i.Using the full text of Romans and our class readings as sources for reflection, how does Romans teach you the practices by which a human exercises his or her general vocation? In other words, according to Romans, what does it mean to live as a fully human being by welcoming others as Christ has welcomed you?
ii.Using the full text of Romans and our class readings as sources for reflection, how does Romans teach you how your particular vocation might be a specific way of being a fully human being, as you use your vocation itself (and not just your treatment of co-workers) as a way of welcoming others as Christ has welcomed you?
iii.The essay must offer a concluding reflection on both the promise and limitation of thinking of your particular vocation as the means by which you participate in Christs act of hospitality. Why must we think of our work as a means of extending Gods hospitality? Why must we think beyond our workplace as a means of extending Gods hospitality?

2.No additional research is required for this essay apart from the assigned readings of the class.
3.Your essay must have a clear thesis statement that makes a claim about your general and particular vocation in light of Romans 15:7 and your reading of Romans as a whole.
4.Please utilize footnotes that include only author and page number for any course readings you reference. For example, (Barth, p. 32).
5.The essay should be single-spaced.
6.Include a word count at the end of the essay. Points will be deducted if your essay is shorter than 1,350 words and longer than 1,650 words
