The Age of Enlightenment, Revolution, and Outcome Assignment
Using what you have learned about society in this time period, you are to create
a work of art which portrays the causes and effects of the French Revolution.
You are to combine imagery of The Age of Enlightenment, the extravagance of
the Rococo and Marie Antoinette, as well as the outcomes of the Revolution and
its effect on French society. In other words, show me what French society looked
like, felt like, acted like, at the beginning of the French Revolution and how it got
there, while also choosing a specific artistic style (or multiple styles) from the
works of art in the required chapters, videos, and articles you watched/read for
class today (5/5).
Due Tuesday, May 10th:
1) Create your work of art as described above. You are not limited in how you
go about doing this. You can use your computer, you can collage, you can
draw, you can paint, etc.; as long as the work is your own and portrays the
imagery required, and is reminiscent of typical works of art in this period,
and not just a grouping of images.
2) Answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper:
I. What imagery did you use in your work of art that portrays The Age
of Enlightenment?
II. What imagery did you use in your work of art that portrays the
extravagance of the Rococo and Marie Antoinette?
III. What imagery did you use that portrays the outcomes of the
French Revolution and its effect on French society?
IV. Which artistic style/s, or which artist/s of this period, influenced the
style of your creation, and how is that shown?
3) Be prepared to present to the class on Tuesday.
