Essay 2: Arguing the Reverse
Assignment:
For this assignment, you will pick a topic you are very passionate about and write an argumentative paper going for the complete opposite of what you believe in. You will choose something you do not stand by or agree with and argue for that perspective. Create an argumentative essay that focuses on another perspective of what you think you do not like. For example, if you are not for students taking general education courses, you must write about the positives and needs for GEN Ed courses in college.
Laying the Paper Out
It is important you open the paper with a strong introduction that explains what you are supposed to argue about in the paper. Be sure to add in a strong thesis. In your body you are to break down the pros of your subject and why it is critical people understand the perspective. You are expected to find sources and examples to support your claims. Close the paper with strong final points about what people, like you, can learn about the subject. BE OPEN MINDED!
Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to open your mind to another perspective of what you initially think and feel about things and people around you. Before you decide you do not like or agree to something, it is important that you research why you feel that way. Expand your mind to picking a topic you are completely uncomfortable with. Find a subject that you are passionate about and write about the opposite perspective and argue for what you do not believe in. Expand your thinking.
Questions to ask while writing
Have you made any hasty generalizations?
Are you biased writing your assignment because of personal experience?
Do you have any considerations of possible weaknesses in your argument?
Have you refuted the counter argument with points, facts and examples?
Does your conclusion match you introduction but with closing points?
