All the lectures and presentations addressed themselves in some sense to an apparent tension between the theory of evolution and biblical teaching – either to resolve that tension, or to demonstrate that it is a false and unnecessary tension, or to illustrate ways in which it impacts our understanding of human nature/identity. This assignment asks you to reflect on your own understanding and/or experience of that tension and whether and how this conference has helped you (or not) come to terms with it.
Specifically, write a brief essay (about 750 words) in which you respond to the following questions:
What did you learn from this conference that you really appreciated or found most helpful, and why?
What did you hear that you disagreed with, and why?
What was the most surprising thing you learned, and why?
Keep in mind that an excellent IS paper offers a thoughtful and well organized assessment of the ideas presented in the conference. Be sure to provide abundant, specific and relevant examples of ideas and issues raised during the various lectures and panel discussions. Your faculty marker will be looking for specific references to conference presentations.
