CAN YOU ENHANCE ETHICAL BEHAVIOR IN A COMPANY USING IT?
A code of ethics or ethical behaviors runs a company, which assist in the development of company’s mission and visions accordingly. Information technology (IT) encompasses technological process carried out within the company. Can the company enhance ethical behavior using information technology? Yes. This paper will help provide ways on how you can enhance ethical behavior in a company using IT.
Ethical Behaviour and Information Technology (IT)
Ethical behaviour involves doing the right thing in a company through following the required standards or code of ethics (Brooks, R. 2007, 5). The ethical behaviour processes in a company involves aspects of human welfare advancement, integrity, communication competence, work responsibility and professionalism (Berzai, L, 2012). Information technology in a company is geared towards developments of speed, accuracy, and security in carrying out the business processes. The core IT business processes involve security, communication, training, and work. Application of information technology is crucial in the development of stable business practices, relationships, and culture among the people to maintain ethical behaviour.
Way of Enhancing Ethical Behaviour Using IT
To enhance ethical behaviour using IT you require a code of ethics that will govern the employees. The advancement of IT sector in the company as facilitated the effectiveness and easiness in carrying out company processes. The following are ways to enhance ethical behaviour in a company using IT:
Developing secure systems to instill integrity through IT
A company IT department is involved in the securing of data from unauthorized personnel through secure systems. Ethically IT enables the company to instill sense of integrity and confidentiality for the electronic information, which allows legitimate log-ins (Ethics Resource Center, 2011). IT allows the use of packages of internet software to control employees’ usage policies.
Maintaining communication and information competence through IT
Employees in a company are able to communicate efficiently with their colleagues and managers through IT. Ethical behavior in a company should allow open and moral argument to assist in decision-making (Berzai, L, 2012). Screening of employees’ background information, investors, and partners using latest IT measures increases the competence of the company
Auditing of work responsibility and professionalism through IT
IT technology is able to monitor and track the activities of employees in the company workplace through auditing tools. This ensures that the employee carry out their work responsibility. Auditing allows professionalism in record keeping, as it avoids manipulation of financial records (Brooks, R. 2007, 12).
Employing work training programs through IT
According to Anstead, S, Craig, K, Cuellar, R, and Sheikh, K, 2000, IT is able to advance education programs about ethical behaviour. Business programs development through IT by a company allows employees to learn workplace principles through web-based training or live training modes.
In conclusion, ethical behaviour is enhanced using IT through developing secure systems to instill integrity, through maintain communication and information competence. Additionally, auditing work responsibility and professionalism plus employment of training programs through IT can enhance ethical behavior in a company. Ethical behaviour through using IT allows company to carry out effective relationship and sufficient job performances
