For the Compliance Analysis, you will prepare a compliance report (examples will be provided) evaluating the use of GAAP in the financial statements, identifying the relevant code sections and any departures from GAAP, the authority used to justify the departures, and an evaluation of the reasoning for the company choosing particular accounting methods.
Choose a publicly traded company in your industry or in an industry that interests you. Download the company’s financial statements, including the notes. You will be using these financial statements to prepare your Compliance Analysis.
In Module 7, you will submit Part I in a Word document, which will include:
1) The name of the company you are using for the Compliance Analysis.
2) Your first memo. The memo should include an analysis of six footnotes; three footnotes from the income statement and three long-term assets related. The disclosure analysis must include the revenue recognition, leases, and equipment footnotes.
An example is provided in the Lecture 7.
While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
Details: Part 2 (Three Pages)
In Module 8, you will submit Part II in a Word document, research memo format, in which you will:
1) Analyze compliance in the liability and equity sections of the balance sheet.
2) Evaluate liabilities and equity.
3) Analyze seven footnotes from the cash flow, long-term assets, liabilities and equities section of the balance sheet, and income taxes footnote. You must include the goodwill, intangible assets, fair value measurements and, recently adopted pronouncements.
4) While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
5) This assignment uses a grading rubric. Instructors will be using the rubric to grade the assignment; therefore, students should review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.
