CONDUCTING INTERVIEWS AND USING FIELD NOTES
It is important to be aware of participants’ verbal and nonverbal communication during interviews. To do this, researchers must be “present.” Participants’ stories can be filled with meaning, and researchers can often glean more details (particularly about feelings and emotions) when they understand what to take notice of and what to include in their field notes. In this Discussion, you explain what you might do if you were interviewing a participant as well as what additional information you might include in your field notes. To prepare for this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources and refer to the transcript (uploaded).
Question:
1. Explanation what you might have done differently if you were the interviewer from the transcript.
2. Explain what field notes you might have taken. Be sure to include your thoughts on the idea of being “present” during the interview.
3. Explain any advantages of being the actual interviewer as opposed to only analyzing the transcript.
Note: To prepare for this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources.
Instructions:
1). Support the Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation (including URL where applicable).
2). All sources must be scholarly.
3. Include In-text citations and references ALL in the APA format.
