Report Structure

The following is presented as a guide to ‘How to’ construct a report in relation to module ET4S25 – Health and Safety Management. Whilst presented as a guide, you are encouraged to ensure that the sections reflect and relate to the development of your coursework.

Summary / Executive Summary / Abstract

This section should clearly indicate what you have done and why, how you did the work and what are your main findings and recommendations. This section should be no more than a page in length.

1.0 Introduction

1.1 General Overview of the subject area under investigation
1.2 Aims and Objectives

This section should provide the reader with a brief overview of the subject area – scope, importance of area which should then lead you to defining your aim and objectives of the work – in other words what you hope to do and how. This again should be no more than 1/2 pages in this length of report.

2.0 Literature Review

2.1 Health and Safety Management – Why, Legal, OHSAS etc
2.2 Measuring H&S Performance
2.3 Etc..

This section should reflect the research undertaken by you to help inform your knowledge of the subject area and your decisions on what to propose in your programme and which area to develop and use for your case study (~1000 words).

3.0 Methodology

This section should briefly outline ‘HOW’ you have undertaken your work

4.0 Results and Recommendations

4.1 Inspection Process
4.2 Inspection results and recommendations
4.3 Measuring H&S performance / inspections and OHSAS18001

This section should present the actual results of the methods you have decided to use and details regarding the case study you have explored in more detail. This should be the largest section of our work – as after all this is were you describe what you have done (~1500 words)

5.0 Conclusion

This is again a small section summarizing your main conclusions of your work.

6.0 References

All references used within the text of the report should be fully indicated here.

7.0 Bibliography

Any sources of information you have read to help support your work, but not referenced should be acknowledged here.

8.0 Appendices
