A key part of Education 124 is demonstrating an understanding of issues of inequality that impact the life chances and school success of K-12 students in American public education. You will choose one article to read from an assigned list and write a 2-3 page paper (double-spaced, 12pt font, 1” margins) in which you:
• Identify the key educational issue(s) raised in the piece •
• Summarize the author’s argument •
• Evaluate the argument in relation to course readings (cite using APA format).
Your objective is to demonstrate an understanding of the way arguments about educational inequality–inside and outside of schools– are presented in the context of a popular media. This assignment is not an opportunity to share your personal opinion.
Your paper must include:
● Heading
● Title
●Introduction paragraph
●Section in which you deconstruct the author’s key argument
●Section in which you evaluate the author’s argument in light of course
readings
●Conclusion paragraph
●Reference page (separate page, use APA format)
Your writing will be scored using the Final Exam Rubric.
You may access the materials from the course website, your notes, and the course readings as you work on the paper independently. You may NOT collaborate with others or use sources outside of the course (i.e., other readings or the Internet).
