Describe patient’s chronic illness.

I do not want you to write a new essay for me. What I want you to do is just modify my essay and put them in better words without changing the style, concept and names. Please just rephrase it for me and do not put any additional information. Also do not exceed the word count which is 600 words. Please do not make any changes in the questions and description as well
1. Describe the patient’s chronic illness experience. Include:

• The initials of the patient’s first and last name

• Where you met the patient (healthcare symposia, GP visit, expert patient)

• Patient demographics (age, nationality, gender, and where they live)

• Diagnosis (of the main chronic disease) and duration of the illness. You may list other diagnoses if they have a significant impact on the patient also.

• Describe the impact of illness on the daily life of the patient and family (or other supporters). There should be 6 impacts in total.

Identify (R) which is one impact of illness that had the most effect on you (ie made you angry, uncomfortable, sad, uncertain, surprised, happy)

I met MS at one of my health care symposia. MS is a 50 years old Irish female and lives in county Laois. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2003 but has been suffering from its symptoms since 1999.During her speech, she seemed so self- satisfied and mentioned that she gained this optimistic perspective to her situation through her experiences and changes she made in her life. As the Parkinson’s Disease is a slowly progressing disease, it made big impairments in her daily life style. Her condition disallowed her to do a few activities in one day, thus she had to prioritize them, which was also important for conserving enough energy and getting enough rest. Also she had to manage her day around the medications because she took at least five medications a day and they had to be taken on time. Even though there is not a particular diet for patients with Parkinson’s Disease she made changes in her diet and started replacing carbohydrate with protein for dinner. However, the most chanllenging step for her was getting the habit of accepting help from others while dressing or eating or not being able to go to the hospital without her husband’s help. When she mentioned her health condition associated dependency on others, it influenced me deeply.

2. Share the thoughts/feelings you had when hearing about (R) from the patient.

I tried to develop empathy when she was talking about losing her completely independent mobility and it was even so hard when I was in her shoes and I could not imagine being in her situation. However the support she had from her spouse and children at her worst times made me feel that humanity and love still exist.

3. What was your evaluation of (R)? What was good about (R)? What was bad about (R)?

Parkinson’s Disease restricted her independency and getting support from people around her facilitates her life. However, she seemed to be a highly sensitive person and any argument in her family might make her feel like a burden on others and cause depression.

4. What was your analysis of (R)?

What ideas or theories are you aware of which look at this issue?

Explain how these ideas or theories help you make sense of (R).

It is not uncommon for patient’s with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) to have mobility disorders due to muscle stiffness and impaired balance. A study performed at the University of Maryland School of Medicine revealed that if patients with PD do low-intensity excersise for 50 minutes 3 times a week, it will be most beneficial at improving Parkinson’s patients’ mobility problems. MS mentioned that she tries to walk and exercise to maintain her physical conditon and it was obvious in her movements, even though she was diagnosed with PD 12 years ago, she was completely able to walk alone and talk normally. Also researches show that up to 60 % of patients with PD are also suffering from mild or moderate depression and one of the major causes of this is the limitations in mobility. Thus, we should be easy- going while talking to them. I observed her husband’s approach towards her and was so impressed. He was so understanding, indulgent, and defensive and that is why she was so comfortable to talk to us and had no doubts about her safety.

5. What were the conclusions you made after the analysis? (ie summarize the key things you have learned)

After listening to MS’s story and knowing about the improvements she made, now I have a better understanding of how doctors can give the right advice to their patients and their family to get the best life style for them.

6. Describe how this process will affect your actions as a physician in the future.

In the future, I will endevour to have a permissive attidute towards my patients rather than incriminating behaviour. I will also aim to inform their families about the importance of support that they can give.
