Leadership and Organizational Politics

Starcorp Industries (a fictitious corporation) is an aerospace contractor with 8,000 employees working in a tight economy. There have been significant cutbacks in governmental contracts as a result of the economy for the past six years and Starcorp has had to lay off workers. Budgets are tight and various divisions and departments have had to compete for resources. This situation, of course, has resulted in infighting, the creation of silos, and even project sabotage between departments. There is hope, however, in that a request for proposal has been posted by the Air Force and NASA respectively for two multi-billion dollar projects that both align with the companys capabilities. Starcorp will need to win at least one of those contracts to stay afloat.

In two to three pages please describe what you think would be characteristics of the ideal leader in running a department or division in such an organization. This is an opinion paper, but you should use some background readings to support your key points.
