Social issues are matters which directly or indirectly affect a person or many members of a society and are considered to be problems, controversies related to moral values, or both. Under certain models of political issues, they are seen as distinct from economic issues.
Describe to me why homelessness is classified as a social problem. What is your immediate reaction to seeing someone that you perceive as homeless? Do you blame them for their situation? Sociologists look at problems from all sides. At first it may seem that homelessness is solely the fault of the individual, but if you look deeper you will find other causes, such as lack of mental health care for the mentally ill. What are some other causes of homelessness? Do a little research. What programs and/or policies are in place in Mobile to fight homelessness? What other programs and/or policies do you think could be enacted to help fight homelessness?
