Differences between Certification and Registration
Certification refers to the voluntary credentialing procedure that is normally provided by a governmental or non-governmental organization like college, school and other accreditation body (Cottrell, 2011). Certification shows that the allied specialist or person has attained the standards set by the certification body. On the other hand, registration is an indication that an individual whose name is highlighted on an authorized record or register has attained specific requirements in their specific profession. The list of registered names can then be accessed registrar to establish if a potential worker has attained specific requirements (Cottrell, 2011).
Difference between Registration and Self-Declaration
According to Fumy & Paeschke (2011), registration is an indication that an individual whose name is highlighted on an authorized record or register has attained specific requirements in their specific profession. The list of registered names can then be accessed registrar to establish if a potential worker has attained specific requirements. On the other hand, self-declaration implies that an organization issues a statement on the basis of its own determination that upon evaluation of its management system to affirm that it has attained all the specified requirements of ISO 14001 (Fumy & Paeschke, 2011).
What advice would you give an organization considering self-declaration of conformance to ISO 14000? Why?
I would advice an organization considering self-declaration of conformance to ISO 14000 that it should first assess its activities and determine possibility of environmental pollution. If it is a manufacturing organization, then I will advice it not to sign self-declaration of conformation to ISO 14000. This is for the reason that even though objective of ISO 14000 is to ensure success of the organizations while preserving environment, it can also affect organizations negatively. This is because smoke and chemicals emitted in the gaseous form are the main factors affecting environment today (Tibor & Feldman, 1997). Hence, all manufacturing organizations usually emit smoke, chemicals and other wastes that are harmful to the environment. Hence, it will find it difficult to observe all requirements of ISO 14000 once it has signed self-declaration of conformance to ISO 14000. Violations of terms and conditions of ISO 14000 will lead an organization to face fines and even closure of the organization.
