Differences in Gendered language

Provide a specific difference in language structure or usage that has been described in the literature between men and women. For example, in Tannen’s “You Just Don’t Understand” (91) , she cites a study by Alice Deakins that looks at topics men and women bankers talked about when they were at lunch. Male bankers, when alone, talked about business (not people), food, sports and recreation. Women bankers, when alone, talked about people (friends, children, partners…)) business, health (weight control). When the genders were together, the topics chosen were the male topics rather than female ones. Sound familiar today?
