New Testament
Matthew 26:27-29 New International Version (NIV)
27 “Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
The passage is about the Lord’s Supper. Here, Jesus drinks wine with his disciples. Jesus knows this is the last time he will drink with his brethren. He tells them that the next time that they drink together it will be in Heaven. This act of comradery is practiced all over the world. For Christians the act is sacred and has become the ritual of Communion, and for Jews it is Passover. Jesus understood his role as the sacrificial lamb, and referred to his body and blood as such. His sacrifice will bring about a new covenant between His father and all sinners.
Hebrew
Tehillim – Psalms – Chapter 105:4-8
4 “Search for the Lord and His might; seek His presence constantly. 5 Remember His wonders, which He performed, His miracles and the judgments of His mouth. 6 The seed of Abraham His servant, the children of Jacob, His chosen ones. 7 He is the Lord our God; throughout all the earth are His judgments. 8 He remembered His covenant forever, the word He had commanded to the thousandth generation”
This passage speaks of the covenant God made with Abraham and passed on through Isaac. Here it tells the children of Abraham to always seek the Lord and to follow His path. It reminds them to remember the works and words of God. This could be interpreted to mean that they should pass this knowledge onto your children so they shall also remember God and the covenant, and remain chosen for a thousand generations. A thousand generations is a very long time. It is important that they remember, because God, being God, will never forget the promise He made, so they should not either.
Muslim
Aal-e-`Imran Chapter 3: Verse 78
“As for those who take a paltry price in exchange for their covenant with Allah and their oaths, they shall have no portion in the life to come, and Allah will neither speak to them nor look upon them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and for them shall be a grievous punishment.”
This passage speaks on selling out. It warns Muslims not to turn their backs on their promise to God. Anything this world can offer is considered paltry compared to paradise of heaven and the protection and favor of God. The covenant is sacred and if any Muslim should be so daft as to break it, he will be shunned by God. He will not acknowledge them on the day of judgement, and this will be most horrible for them. For the price they were paid for their transgression will seem meager and pale in comparison to what they will face on that day.
