Irvine
For an urban area, it is a place characterized by elevated/high human population density. Compared to the surrounding, the area has vast artificial features. The extension of urban areas is from towns, cities or conurbations and extends to rural settlements such as hamlets and villages. This paper gives features that make Irvine suburb have the qualities or qualifications of an urban area.
It is one of the suburban cities that is affluent in Orange County, California. It has been developed by Irvine Company since 1960s through planning. In the 2010 census, the city had a population of about 212 375 people. It is a sixty-six square mile city. It makes the city have a population density of 3 196 people per square mile or 1 234 per square kilometer. It has a mission statement that aims at developing for creating and maintaining a community where people live, work, and play in a vibrant, safe and aesthetic environment. In the USA, it is placed as the fourth best place to live by 2008 as indicated by CNNmoney.com. It has good highly rated public schools, good residential houses and the jobs in this city mostly requires a skilled workforce. The Business week magazine listed the city as the fifth best in the United States by September 2011. With a population of over 100 000 people, it is considered the safest city.
Irvine city is the home to a number of prestigious tertiary institutions, universities and colleges. It includes the Irvine Valley College, Stan bridge College, University of California irvine, Concordia University and other campuses of colleges and universities. It has corporations in semiconductor and technology sectors. It is divided into townships referred to as villages (Bloom, 38). The six-lane streets separate the townships that have houses with a similar design.
The design that Irvine City is made of is of an urban centre. Commercial districts border the residential. It includes the Irvine Spectrum to the east and the west by Irvine Business Complex. There are two man-made lakes in central Woodbridge, which is one of the central villages. From the census reports, the Irvine City has 97 percent of its population living in households. The households in the city are 78 978.
The city has a good economy that base on tourism and several companies. Destination Irvine program conveys Irvine’s city tourism information and it is run by a Chamber of Commerce. It informs on places of vacation and business, event and meeting destinations. For business start-ups, Irvine is one of the top cities with fast growing job markets. Film projects in the city are present due to low cost or free permits to the government (Palda, 108).
The city has a good infrastructure with intersections and streets having the mahogany sign of trademark and fiber linked throughout. Traffic cameras control the traffic throughout the city, and it has some major highways passing through including California State Routes 133, 73, 261 and 241. Orange County Transportation Authority operates local bus routes. A commuter railway is in the city and extent of Los Angeles.
Irvine city has qualities that place it under an urban area. The population, infrastructure and health services support this argument. Irvine has various institutions, libraries, parks and recreation sites, companies, libraries, and many other points of interest in an urban area. The fact that its rankings among the safest and best cities in the United States boosts is a good place the area as an urban center. The area is becoming more urbanized as days goes by with various places being developed through the city planning board. It has opportunities for businesses and employment.
