The following assignment is to be undertaken if you have not passed this module on the first attempt, and have been offered the opportunity of referred or deferred assessment. The assignment assesses all the intended learning outcomes of the module. Please note that NO FURTHER RESEARCH is required for this assignment.

1) Using theory from the module and evidence from the case evaluate the ‘Vertically Integrated’ strategy of American Apparel and discuss whether this was driven by a market-based or a resource-based approach.

2) Discuss Dov Charney’s leadership as discussed in the case and identify Charney’s influence on the company’s performance. Discuss your opinion of his approach making links to module theory.

3) Explore the company’s strategy from the perspective of Corporate Social Responsibility. To what extent could you argue that the company have taken a stakeholder perspective in developing their business model? What other factors would you consider to be important when evaluating CSR in the company? You must use relevant module theory to answer this question.

4) Using module theory, including Jacobides Industry Architecture approach, and evidence from the case discuss the industry in which American Apparel compete. How does American Apparel’s business model compare to other suppliers in this industry and what are the challenges of this approach?

5) Using Porters Value Chain critically evaluate the strategy that American Apparel have followed and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. Based on your analysis what options would you put forward to overcome the issues identified.
