Topic: Discuss the different ways Mexica and Inka art related their religious, economic and political practices to the surrounding landscape.
Write a short, six hundred to eight hundred word essay (not inclusive of footnotes/endnotes, bibliography and illustrations) that responds to ONE of the question below. All essays must incorporate all relevant class lectures, discussions, and relevant readings, including those not discussed in class. All papers must have at least five references and must be listed in your bibliography (consult a style manual for examples of bibliographic citations).
Your response has to be built and supported by a discussion of visual culture and should include an analysis of at least four objects, at least one has to be pre-Columbian and one Colonial. Images can come from various sources including your readings, reference materials in the library and from lectures. All books in the reference area can only be checked for two hours. After you have checked the book out once, please return it promptly so that your classmates can have access to the same material.
BEWARE: I am not interested in reading a descriptive, formalist essay that merely restates what has been said in class or stated in the readings. I am looking for an analytical essay.
