Discuss the wisdom of publishing and founding a “fellowship” at the low point in Wright’s career.

The five-paragraph essays we are writing are too short to contain quotations of more than a few words. All of the language in your essay should be your own. If you find it necessary to refer to the title of a work of art, a video, our textbook, or other sources, you must attribute the source in accordance with MLA style of citation. Papers containing text from other sources that is not cited will not receive credit. Students who plagiarize will be subject to disciplinary procedures.
1. Formulate a thesis topic.
2. Sketch an outline of your thoughts. There must be a primary thesis statement for the introductory paragraph.
3. Formulate three ideas related to the thesis statement. These may contradict the primary thesis, contrast with it, or describe it from different perspectives. Each of these related theses will become the thesis statements of the three body paragraphs. Plan how you will guide your reader with smooth transitions from the first thesis statement to the other three.
4. Review the primary thesis and the three secondary theses to determine how you might summarize them and conclude your essay in the final parapgraph.
5. If you have done a good job with the outline, the essay is nearly finished. You need only to flesh it out.  There should be no sentence that does not bear on the thesis in some clear way.
When you have finished a first draft, please take it to the Moorpark College Writing Center.
Do not submit your essay immediately upon finishing a first draft. Please give your a work a day or so, and then give it a second reading and revision.
Other advice:
Be measured in your thesis statement.  For the module essays, some have proposed theses that deserve at least a full book, while other have made claims that do not warrant five paragraphs. The formulation of your thesis is the biggest challenge of the process.
Seek to convince, not to impress.
Keep your sentences short, simple and under control, unless more complex sentences are absolutely necessary.
Avoid fancy vocabulary, unless you are certain that a more everyday word will not serve the same purpose.
Avoid generalities and sweeping statements.  They cannot be proved.  Do not state anything that cannot be proved.
Do not state anything that is not directly relevant to your present thesis and argument.  Do not make any statements just to fill up space!
This is not a research paper, rather it is a very short essay.  There is no room for appeals to authorities or citations from other sources. Write your own thoughts!
Academic writing is objective and never personal.  Avoid personal insights and feelings, or at least avoid stating them as such.
Avoid verbs that suggest that you are unsure about your statements, such as ” it seems,” or “one might say.”  State facts in the indicative voice, i.e., “Such artworks are clearly….”
Remember that writing in this controlled way is an exercise in clear thinking!  That is the reason for the assignment.
