Reply from married, middle classed 66 years old, male of White descent, Catholic religion, retired Middle School History teacher, having two children and 6 grandchildren. Currently working part time whose wife is a retied teacher:

1. A help because most of the medical research that has been done over time has been done on people of my race. 2. Heart disease due to obesity and hypertension. 3. Going to a single payer system where a person’s finances aren’t devastated by a serious illness. Many people, myself included, base some doctor visits on whether it will run up a bill at the hospital. I recently had out patient surgery on my hand for skin cancer and I am sure I am going to get a bill of over a $1000 for less than an hour in the room and that is after my insurance pays 80%. 4. Older people are not unproductive but they are not as productive as younger counterparts in certain professions. Right now, I have a part time job that could be full time but I don’t feel like working that hard, hence I am not as productive as someone who needs the full paycheck. Being retired and receiving a pension means that I work just enough to help pay for some things I want, rather than things I need.
