Anth 140: Annotated Bibliography
This annotated bibliography project is designed to give you experience in finding appropriate source materials, as if you were preparing to write a scientific research paper.
The point of this assignment is for you to evaluate the usefulness of each source you choose. In order to evaluate the usefulness of information, you first have to read and understand it!
Your topic for this annotated bibliography is naledi . This is a very specific category, chosen to give you a limited range of articles from which to choose your material.
The five articles you choose for this assignment MUST be published or updated between 2015 – 2016.
For each article:
A) Write the full source citation in APA format.
B) Read the full text of this article (not just the abstract!!).
C) DO NOT write a summary of the article. DO NOT copy section(s) of the article.
D) Choose a few of the main points in the article for further discussion.
Analyze the author’s argument for including this information in the article.
Decide if this is a good article to include as a source for a research paper.
Tell me why or why not.
E) Each article analysis should be about 250 words total.
PROCEDURE:
Choose any five articles that were published between 2015 – 2016 (5 points each)
REQUIRMENTS:
1) Use the DVC Library databases to complete this assignment (online or in person).
2) The source citations for this assignment must be written in APA format, not in MLA format.
You will lose points if you do not use APA citation format!
APA source citation format =
Last name of the author(s), followed by first initials. (Year of publication). Title of article.
Publication, volume number(issue number). DOI number if available.
For example, an article titled “Effects of Exposure to Photosynthetically Active Radiation on Houseplants” written by Leslie Nagle and Aubrey Jones was published in Gardeners Almanac, volume 15, issue 12 in September 2013. The correct way to cite this article in APA format is:
Nagle, L. and Jones, A. (2013). Effects of exposure to photosynthetically active radiation on houseplants.
Gardeners Almanac 15(12). doi:10.2345/journal.gardal.678910
Include the DOI if it is available through the library database. Only about 60% of articles have this digital information available at the moment, but the permanent collection of articles is growing.
3) Follow instructions! Part of your grade for this assignment is based on whether or not you do.
Each annotated bibliography entry is worth 5 points (total 25 points):
1-2 point for correct APA source format
1-3 points for addressing the information requested for your annotation.
4) Put your name, date and title of this assignment (Annotated Bibliography) in the top left corner of
the first page of your paper. Nothing else. NO COVER PAGES!! NO ABSTRACTS!!
Save your work as a Word doc or .docx or .odt or .pdf or .rtf and submit the file to the dedicated drop box for this assignment on the course website no later than 11:00 p.m. on the due date.
DO NOT try to submit your work in “Pages” or as a Google Doc or shared through Google Drive. The course website does not support these formats. I will not be able to open your file.
