In the methodology, designing an English for Specific Purposes curriculum that has the Specialized Language and General English to make it interesting to the English learners
Steps to design the curriculum:
– Needs assessment: done through (surveys, interview, observation) (100 questionnaires and 100 interview for students in the school 100 questionnaires and 100 interview for already graduated students at the workplace )
– Software to analysis data ( Name a software)
– Train qualified ESP teachers to be curriculum designers
Important points to be taken in consideration when designing the curriculum:
1-Embedding Saudi culture along with the target language culture (western culture) because a language cant be taught without teaching its culture, but embedding Saudi culture will make interesting to the Saudi students.
2-Incorporating authentic material from the workplace that students would work on after they finish the course.
3-Incorporating the four domains of the language (speaking, listening, reading writing). All the four language skills are equally important for English language learners to master the language
4-The course should be in series that align with students English proficiency levels.
5-The period of the course should be long enough for students to consolidate the language.
6-Interesting topics such as history would be interesting to have in a curriculum as a way to teach English through history which will make students more encouraged to know about their history
