Basically, this research is a primary research that aims to understand what young British Africans feel and also understand about hypertension; since research has reported very high prevalence of high blood pressure among the people of this ethnic group in the uk and also abroad and reported the likely causes to be due to salt sensitivity among thus group. Research also showed that majority of this ethnic group especially in the US don’t exactly believe or understand that they are more susceptible to developing hypertension also generally hypertension has been noted to develop early in this ethnic group during young age (16-24) but will not manifest as a clinical condition until later in life when it can get worse or be maintained (between 40-70). so this research aims to
o To understand the knowledge and beliefs of young British black Africans within the age group of 16-24 about hypertension;
o To evaluate and describe the health education experiences of young British Africans on hypertension and its potential risk factors;
o To identify gender differences that may occur in knowledge, beliefs and perception of these young British black Africans o hypertension.
To carry out this research, a qualitative method will be used where one on one interview using semi structured questions will be conducted, and a sample of 15 participants will be considered. This sample would be made up of males and females; the reason for basing the interview on gender is because the alarming rate of high blood pressure observed among this ethnic group vary with gender, so the research also aim to know if gender differences occur in the views of these young ones on hypertension in order to explain why there exist gender differences in rate of prevalence. This research is mainly based on black Africans in the UK.
Therefore, the literature review is expected to be written with various subtopics addressing the ethnicity in question, the rates of hypertension among them, how detrimental it is, researches that have tried to understand such rates, interventions tor reduce the rates, acceptance and attitude to such interventions, reason for continuous increase in rates despite interventions, gender differences observed so far in rates and acceptance and beliefs, role of young adolescents in disease prevention, peculiarity of young black Africans with respect to hypertension itself.
please bear in mind that this is just a suggestive instruction, it is expected to be improved and worked upon. Thanks you and please contact me if anything is needed.
