Evaluate and explain the procedures for collecting arson evidence.

Evaluate and explain the procedures for collecting arson evidence using the following case: Powell Arson/Homicide Case Josh Powell was a person of interest in the 2009 disappearance of his wife, Susan, but was never charged. After Susan Powell disappeared, Josh Powell had custody of his two boys, Charlie and Braden. Josh’s father, Steven, also lived with Josh and the two boys. However, when Steven Powell was arrested on charges of voyeurism and child pornography in 2011, Susan Powell’s parents were granted custody of the children. Josh Powell was ordered to undergo psychological testing and take a polygraph test in order to regain custody. Powell was then granted supervised visitation twice weekly. In February of 2012, a child services worker arrived with the children at Powell’s new residence for visitation. Powell let the boys in but locked the CPS worker out of the house. The CPS worker smelled a strong odor of gas. She backed off from the residence and call police. Almost immediately the house erupted in flames. Powell and his two sons were killed in the fire. Assume the role of the forensic technician called to process the scene. For this scenario, assume that the residence is a one-story, three-bedroom, single-family dwelling. It also has a kitchen, dining room, and living room. Search the ITT Virtual Library and the Internet for additional information on the case. Using this information and other facts you find, analyze this case in terms of the four stages of a fire, the four basic classifications of the causes of fire, the importance of motive, and the point of origin. Create a crime scene diagram of the scene using the information provided and that you develop. In your diagram, indicate the point of origin and the location of any evidence, including bodies, as well as all pertinent features of the residence.

Submission Requirements: Submit your results in a Word document. This should be a crime scene report, three to four pages in length. Include your crime scene diagram in your crime scene report.
