Every religion begins with a charismatic leader who forges new values. Jesus in the west and Siddhartha Gautama in the east have contributed in a substantial way to building new values and creating a new way of life: Christianity for Jesus, Buddhism for Siddhartha Gautama. Compare and contrast the new values each has taught in “Matthew 5-7” and “Sermon at Benares.”

The synthesis paper analyzes information from two or more texts and then comes to some conclusion that brings the analyzed information together in a new way. The length of these papers should be five pages long (about 1625 words), minimum three. If a paper is less than three pages long (less than 975 words) you will get half credit (50% = F). ONLY ORIGINAL TEXTS may be used for these essays. You may not use outside sources. Your iBook and the texts required for this class (MLK’s letter, Sophocles’ Antigone and Oedipus Rex, Plato’s Apology and Aristotle’s Poetics are your only sources for these essays. Do not use the introductions for the texts. These essays are a writing exercise to give your own original thought and interpretation in answering a question.
