The environmental movement of the United States has grown in the past decade. The results of this organizing has paved the way for many success stories. Furthermore, this shows how strategic organizations have been to foster, educate and organize young people to care about the future of our planet.Many success stories are for small causes, but the bigger causes have yet to become one of those successes. The focus of organizations who advocate for these causes has led to a bigger collaborate with a spectrum of groups with different purposes who organize around environmental causes such as; climate, energy, economy, health, land use, and animal welfare.
First, this paper will examine the factors that have led to development of stronger unity of environmental activists. Second, by looking at the environmental movement in the United States, investigate the varying inter sectionalities of the groups that unite under this one umbrella. It will highlight differences, mainly the differences in structures and ideological positions.
Finally, looking at the the opposition of such groups at two distinct scales. At the micro, where there is political opposition from representatives with different ideologies. Then at the macro, where industry and lobbyist groups who go to Congress to lobby their causes. With this in mind the environmental movement has faced many obstacles, but has entered a new era of organizing.
