Why does the memorization of the Qur’an hold such a prominent place in Muslim culture? Why is the act of memorization valued irrespective of whether or not one understands the text one is memorizing? What does this tell us about Islamic understandings of how God relates to humanity? How does this differ from Jewish and Christian understandings?
