It only takes a few episodes of the fictional
drama Orange is the New Black to demonstrate that the current prison system is failing our real
society. How can it be improved? First, identify what the major problems are within the prison
system based on in-class readings, research, and the video we watched in class. Next, propose
one to three plausible solutions that could reduce or eliminate some (or all) of these problems.
State why the solutions could work; also state what threats or impositions may exist. Explain why are spending so much money on our prisons? Why are prisons overcrowded? Overall,
explain why a solution is necessary.
