1. Considering Jean Kilbourne’s article, “Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt,” write an essay in which you agree or disagree with either her thesis (MAKE SURE YOUR PAPER HAS A CLEAR THESIS STATEMENT) and support it with examples (AT LEAST FIVE) from advertising (PRINT OR ELECTRONIC) for ONE PARTICULAR PRODUCT (beer, perfume, cigarettes, cars, etc.). When presenting the examples, be sure to do the following:

Describe the ad or commercial in detail, including written copy. Include a SCANNED COPY of the ad.
Discuss the ways in which each ad supports Kilbourne’s thesis.
Discuss the negative effects each ad might have on consumers or society.

General Hints:

Your essay will be evaluated on the completeness of the development of your ideas, on correct and effective use of citations to the works we have read, and on your attention to proofreading, including “spelling, grammar, and punctuation.” Part of your grade will be based on the mechanics of your writing, I am also interested in how you organize your essay and to what extent you use details to describe and illustrate your ideas.

MAKE SURE YOUR PAPER HAS AN INTERESTING TITLE which reflect the THESIS AND CONTENT OF YOUR PAPER.

Make sure your paper has a CONCLUSION in which you tie together the OVERALL EFFECTS of such advertising and put in your own two-cents about advertising or sexism in the media, or something like that.
