Impacts of Global Footprint Network

  1. How I compare with others from My Region

My ecological footprint is better than most people from my region. This is because I use less energy, travel more by public, and eat less meat products.

  1. Benefits of the Exercise

This exercise has encouraged me to be more environmental conscious. That is, I have leant that by consuming less animal products,  purchasing products that are packed in environmental friendly materials, and using more energy efficient equipment; would not only enable me to conserve the current environment, but also the future generations. I have also been encouraged to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and to travel more by energy efficient modes of transport such as bicycle and public means.

  1. Why It Is Useful for Businesses to Calculate their Ecological Footprints

It is important for businesses to calculate their ecological prints because of the benefits that are associated with such practices. First, ecological footprints would enable businesses to determine how they contribute to environmental degradation. Secondly, the ecological footprint would provide businesses with knowledge in green technology thereby enabling them to reduce their carbon footprints. For example, businesses would be encouraged to utilize resources more efficiently and use environmental friendly materials to package their products.

  1. How Libertarian and Utilitarian would View this Exercise

Given that Global Footprint Network aims at maximizing people’s welfare both proponents of libertarian and utilitarian theories would view the exercise as one of the most essential responsibilities that every individual should engage in. For example, utilitarian theory argues that an action is right when it brings happiness to most members of the society. Similarly, libertarianism emphasize that individuals have certain natural rights that should not be violated; the right to property and use of resources being one that should not be violated. Owing to the fact that the outcome of the exercise encourage better usage of resources and also benefit the society at large, both the libertarian and utilitarian would support it.
