globalization and language

Topic: in the global era, with the increase of people moving around the globe, variations of language have arisen such as dialects, hybrid languages and slang, which some feel threaten the “so- called” purity of a national language. Example of hybrid languages include Spanglish, Franglaise, and Chinglish.

Task: based on the topic above, compose a 6 pages essay with citations from at least three sources. The paper needs to follow MLA guidelines for style including the “work cited” page. This argumentative essay’s thesis will set out to show how and why you would define a word, and analyze the effects of globalization on language, use some from of dictionary, the essays I uploaded, and Jamaica Kincaid’s A Small Place, as examples of how variations on official languages( Antiguan English, Korean English, African American English, Spanglish, ect.) are defined and classified.

Exampled of Framed Claim Questions ( use one of these or choose one of your own):
– cause and effect: in the first edition of the New World Reader, Gilbert H. Muller poses the question, “Do you think that “foreign” and hybrid languages area threat to the purity of English in the United States?” In order to question the effect of a hybrid-language on the “purity” of a national language, you’ll need to expose the history of the languages and analyze their so-called purity.
-definition: is Spanglish (or “black English'” or Chinglish ) a language, a dialect, or slang?Use example of how unofficial, yet increasingly common variations of the English language can be defined and classified according to the classifications of language : slang, dialect, hybrid-language, postcolonial language, language, etc.
-classification : what does it take for a type of language to be considered a language, a dialect, or slang ? Give examples of each.
-classification : What are the various reasons people speak Spanglish?
-Compare/Contrast : What are the pros and cons Spanglish?
