Based on the material presented in class over the entire semester provide a three-page (double-spaced answers to the following questions: How do you perceive the book “Infidel”? Is Hirsi Ali’s position on Islam, as it developed in the course of her residence in the West, an extremist one? Has she become a “Westerner” by taking the position she articulates in the book? If so is she betraying the interests of the faith she was born into?
There is no single answer to any of these questions and I am not looking for a correct or incorrect answer. Rather, I am interested in your assessment based on the material we discussed in class. Your assessments should not be impressionistic but should instead be supported by the concepts and evidence that you find appropriate. In other words, you should justify them. Providing direct quotes in a take-home exam does not make sense to me and should be avoided. However, if you cite other peoples’ ideas make sure you provide the information about the sources.
