Finding Sociology (75 points)
It is important that you learn to apply the ideas you are learning in sociology to the understanding of the world around you. You will look at two events, articles, or experiences from a sociological perspective. You will type up a 250-300 word sociological analysis of each one. When we cover urban sociology, everyone will participate in a third Finding Sociology project on Detroits decline and revitalization which we will post on the discussion board and will discuss in class.
The purpose of this assignment is to see how well you can use the concepts you are learning in sociology to understand more about your own experiences.
1. Identify an experience, article, blog, movie, event to focus upon, and analyze, from a
sociological perspective.
2. Briefly describe your focus.
3. Write a 250300 word analysis of your focus USING AT LEAST THREE CONCEPTS YOU HAVE
LEARRNED IN SOCIOLOGY.
60 points of the grade will be based on the ways you use the three concepts in analyzing the event. Do not simply drop a word or two in a sentence. DISCUSS your application of the concepts. Think with them.
