Identify and fully describe a social or environmental problem.

What should I already know about my Cycle 3 topic?
At this point in the cycle you are supposed to have done the following:

1. Identified and fully described a social or environmental problem.

2. Identified a solution to this problem that does not create another social or environmental problem. For instance, it isn’t going to work to solve a child labor problem by suggesting we use prison labor instead. Forcing prisoners to work creates other social problems. Selling cheap, unhealthy food to poor people might increase access to food but unhealthy diets could lead to increases in diabetes, heart disease, cancer, or high cholesterol and would not be a good solution for Cycle 3.

3. Identified a corporation that is likely to undertake this new plan. The plan has to be NEW for them, you are not allowed to simply explain how what they are already doing is socially or environmentally beneficial.

4. Understood how your corporation would improve their bottom line with your strategy. In the final paper, you will be expected to provide some concrete evidence that you think revenues will increase or costs will decrease.

Follow-up.
Please create a made-up corporate and follow the guidelines.

This is what you will need to write about.

What needs to happen in *this* journal?
This journal asks you to explain how the proposed solution actually increases profits and closes gaps in the social or environmental problem space. There are going to be difficulties in this space so you need to talk about how you will realistically overcome them.

What else am I looking for in Cycle 3 papers?
I grade these papers based on the most innovative ideas that impact the worst social or environmental problems in the biggest ways with the greatest likelihood of actually being implemented by the company.

No governmental agencies or legislative actions should be involved in this implementation. Public private partnerships are unsuitable for this cycle.

Solving small social or environmental problems is acceptable, but you may not get the top grade you want.

Solving big problems is harder and will therefore lead to better grades.

Suggesting a solution whose only benefit or primary benefit is improved public relations is not sufficient for A papers.

Discourse Journal 3, Cycle 3
Discuss the challenges your proposed action faces from the corporation’s perspective.
How will success be measured?
What factors could reduce the corporation’s willingness to take this action? What factors would increase the corp’s willingness to take the action?
How would this action serve (or impede) the corporation’s short-term goals? How would it serve larger, longer-term goals? [It is acceptable to have short-term setbacks but the new program or innovation MUST solve long term goals]
What external hurdles must be overcome for the corporation to succeed?
