KEDRON STATE HIGH SCHOOL – HISTORY 2015

  1. Background:

Since 1945 the Australian national identity has shifted from one dominated by a ‘white’ outpost perspective to a multicultural stance. This reflects a strong emphasis on government policies that have encouraged key waves of migration from different parts of the world over the time period, 1945 – present.

  1. Task:

Write an essay that evaluates the impact of a significant wave of immigration into Australia after 1945 on one or more of the following: the Australian economy, and/or Australian political policy, and/or Australian society/culture.

Provide evidence of your research journey by producing a record of research. Here you will need to demonstrate that you have developed questions to frame your inquiry, and organised, analysed and processed information from a range of sources (both primary and secondary).

  1. Roles and Relationships:

The role of the student is as an historian researching and writing an essay on the history of migration in Australia.

  1. length:

The essay should be 400–600 words and include references . It should be accompanied by a bibliography with a minimum of six reliable sources.

  1. GUIDELINES:

As part of the research process design a main question using this template formula:

How has [Choose a wave of immigration (British, Other European, Asian, Pacific Islander or Middle Eastern, or African migration)] had a significant impact or impacts on one or more of the following: [Australian economy and/or Australian political policy; and/or Australian society/culture]?

The date boundaries for your investigation are from 1945 to the present day

Consult with your teacher regarding your choice from the following groups (or sub-groups e.g. Vietnamese migrants) early in the research process and prior to completing the record of research and essay.

Migration waves:

·         British migrants

·         Other European migrants

·         Asian migrants

·         Middle Eastern migrants

·         Pacific Islander migrants

·         African migrants

Evaluate the impact[s] of a significant wave of immigration on one or more of the following:
