Imaginations, Values and Emotions

Imaginations, Values and Emotions

The concept of creativity and inspiration has changed over the years throughout history. For instance, inspiration is deemed to last for more than thirty years, ascertaining that a human’s creative mind can pursue dreams over a prolonged period, until when one achieves such dreams. Creativity is the art of generating new ideas and concepts in our generation, by reviewing the existing ideas formulated by other artists, to come up with more profound ideas relevant to the current generation. Creativity is a complex art encompassing historical, social, and non-natural knowledge in human beings (Mitias, 1985). Throughout the generations, creativity has been associated with the spiritual world or divine intervention, individual characteristics, and social environment. Some propositions also attribute creativity and inspiration to humor and high intellectual capacity among individuals (Taylor & Francis, 2010). Other opinions perceive creativity as an innate characteristic, with opposing propositions viewing creativity as a learned skills that can be acquired via instruction and practice ( Addison, 2005). Creativity and inspiration are core ingredients of any innovative idea and invention, thus they help in the advancement of society.

Development of art through the various periods has been achieved out of the existing imaginations, emotions and values, which contribute significantly to the field of art. In art, imaginations and creativity bring into existence new artifacts whose applications surpass those of artifacts developed via mere imitation. Creativity is crucial in artistic works such as poems. By the 18th century, the idea of creativity was inherent in the theory of art, which resulted from the conception of imagination (Taylor & Francis, 2010). According to Joseph Addison, who carried a research about imagination, concluded that imaginations had power to create while those who oppose this suggest that imagination are just a force whose only effect is fantasy, arguing that men are limited and lack the ability to create new things.

Basing my discussion on the classical and the neoclassical periods of art, one of the main advancements in these eras was the invention of film studies, which in the recent years has widely grown (Jones & Bear, 2005). Moreover, artists suggest that the history of art during this period absorbed several methods and techniques. During these two periods, the most critical object of study was that the art was characterized by observable stylistic changes, the creativity of the artists, and great influence on the existing works of other artists in the past. During these two eras, artists discovered that an association existed between altarpieces and storytelling, as outlined by the classical myths. Unfortunately, it was noted that the historical myths were limited, and, therefore, failed to make progress. Even to the present time, the relationship between art and myths is not yet delineated.

Since the 1960s, art’s transformation in structure and dimension, while embracing modernism, improved its illustration. During this period, artists developed from simple art, into modernized and contemporary artistic styles, which created a rethinking of the relationship of art and myths (Mitias, 1985). Similarly, these periods of art, were triggered by creativity and innovation hence, could not be ignored because of the archaic style of art which was very unique. The archaic art greatly dominated the classical period and therefore became increasingly natural.

The major styles during the classical period curved sculptures which were made of curved surface of a vase, and the surface of a statute. The period further embraced the curving of flat surface objects and painting of the figures as a distinctive characteristic which distinguished this period (Tanner, 2006). One of the most prominent sources that influenced the neo-classical period was the Maya styles which have been attributed to Teotihuacan style (Diehl & Catherine, 2002).

One characteristic of the arts during classical period is that they were long lasting whether ancient authors liked them or not and they were very easy to recognize which era they belonged to because of their shape and structure. Another characteristic of the classical era is that artists had a high degree of independence, freedom and creativity, and therefore these men worked hard to add meaning to life through this independence and their creativity.

Research has shown that breaking the developments in artistic styles into periods can be one of the most difficult things like in this case of neoclassicism which most people attribute to have been from the 1750s and 1830s. This era traces back to the renaissance times which are highly remembered by many people because of the great painting arts done by Raphael who was an artist from Italy and then goes back to the ancient Roman civilization (Berlo, 2004). This Ancient Roman civilization went into the books of record because of the way it attracted mass numbers of tourists to Italy. Therefore, other periods such as Rococo which became so complicated after the 18th century have been based on the classical Greece arts. During the classical period, artistic works developed so much and started becoming accessible in this 18th century (Berlo, 1993). Furthermore, new models were created that were refreshing and pleasing not only to the public but also to the artists themselves. After rococo, there came the Napoleon era which later gave birth to the emotional style of romanticism.  Despite the fact that neoclassical art is an old art, many people still like it especially in parts of Europe mostly in the form of buildings.

There is a close relationship that exists between imaginations, values and beliefs although there are differences across the three. Scholars argue that imaginations, emotions and values are so important such that learning and creativity cannot be attained to excellence and competences except artists work on these in order for them to assess knowledge and skills (Sachs, 2010).

One of the major relationships between the classical and neoclassical historical arts of these periods is that in both poetry and dance was highly praised. According to Taylor & Francis, these two arts experienced great improvement whereby the poems were well organized with constant variations on tone, mode, and the point of view that even most famous lines were hard for the illiterate. Moreover, Pope in his book highlights the similarity between the essays and the poetics which he later satirized with the objective of making an Epic poem. Furthermore, the art in these two periods have a lot of things in common with the artistic works done during the classical and the neoclassical periods because art tends to build on the existing work done by other artists. The historical art in the two periods improved the earlier forms of art and led to the flowering of drama in the 18th century. Likewise, most of the stylistic tendencies in past eras were developed and added some flavor which distinguished them from the former and managed to satisfy the social needs of the time (Taylor & Francis, 2010).

Generally, the art during this period just sharpened the existing one and took a new form to appear like a new art. I think there is a great need for us to develop our historical art because of its rich nature instead of deviating completely from it. Our historical artists played a key role in constituting the standards of the present art which have been used by succeeding generations. Therefore, it is important that this art be defended and maintained. Additionally, it is hard to distinguish the current or the post-modern art from the historical since the historical constitutes the framework of the modern. The shift from the historical art is important because it shows there is progress in art but we should embrace and continue building on the history.

There have been a lot of effects of the later historical art period on the art world which include advancements such as creation of highly prolific arts which are characterized by the wide range of styles and themes which never existed before (Mitias, 1985). Others include the invention of modern art which led to the creation of various construction materials in the architect field. It also led to the emergence of photography, and construction of complex buildings, and development of poetry (Taylor & Francis, 2010).

It should also be noted that traditional values are not the best because some of them can mislead the society into doing wrong things that are parallel to our personal beliefs. Moreover, due to the existence of very few who can fight for the restoration of the right values emotions and imaginations is a big challenge since its hard for the small numbers to make a difference in such a large world (Jeremy, 2006). Likewise, irrespective of people’s intellectual capacity, God has given to everyone a measure of ability which can be used to develop their own lives even if not other many things. Therefore, all human beings have a duty to use the God given endowments to make their lives take whatever shape and direction they wish.
