Individual Report

Note: Important to read (Super Important)
Hey guys. I am working on my individual report for lab 5… and I just realized that we were supposed to be keeping track of the force exerted on the cart. We so focused on the values for acceleration that we completely missed this, so I think we can expect to miss some points on our group report.

I am hoping that if we put something in our individual reports about it that we can miss fewer points. Just explain that we had trouble getting the setup to work and so it didn\’t get done, but the net force on the cart should have been equal to the acceleration of the cart times its mass.

The acceleration of the cart is that thing we derived – equation 1 in the lab, equation 2 if you\’re looking in the group report:

a = m * g
M+m

So the net force on the cart is that formula times the mass of the cart, M:

Fcart = Ma = M * m * g
M+m

This is equation 2 in the lab, but I didn\’t put it in the group report. We should have plugged the value for the mass of the cart, M, and the value of the mass, m, into this equation each time we changed the mass and compared it to the force on the probe.
