Working title of dissertation: Cabo Polonio: A look unto the Pillars of Sustainability
The overall aim of the dissertation:
To investigate and critically evaluate Cabo Polonio’s National Park methodological framework for evaluation of sustainability indicators as a tourism destination. The research paper argues that one of the main factors in our inability to change the patterns of unsustainable development practices, is the lack of necessary societal structures and planning approaches for the management of local societies and their respective Eco-systems.
Objectives : (Only require Objective One to be done)
Objective 1 – To analyze and critically evaluate sustainable development approaches and theoretical approaches to management of a regional destination (Secondary).
Objective 2 – To identify and understand if governmental policies and approaches are de facto helping the locals and biodiversity in Cabo Polonio (Primary).
Objective 3 – Discuss the residents opinions and contrast to the local authorities sustainable approaches in order to find out if the existing plan of Cabo Polonio system comprehensive, ecologically representative and effectively managed.(Primary/Secondary).
Objective 4 – To develop a set of conclusions for new developments and/or consolidated protected areas, highlighting responsible tourism practices across the board.
I am writing a dissertation, on sustainability approaches and frameworks, with a case study based on Cabo Polonio, Uruguay. As the main objective I would like to triangulate between literature review, introduction and preliminary research done, emphasizing on the local community, and thus far the lack of/or inability to maintain the management of a local destination.
The idea:
It came when I have visited Cabo Polonio last summer (their winter), and to my disappointment, I have felt the locals were not being involved on the sustainable development of the area, through ethnography research and questioners, the people seemed to concur.
