Library Science

Students will select a topic that interests them in library and information science, and develop an idea for a grant proposal for a research project. For example, you may assume yourself asa librarian who is writing a grant proposal for conducting research for your library; or, you mayassume yourself as a researcher who is writing a grant proposal for conducting scholarly research. There is no limitation on the period of research project (it can be a short term project which can bedone in several months or a long term project, such as a five-year-project) and no limitation on theamount of funds. However, you should write a research proposal which will demonstrate significanceof your study, appropriate research design and your capability of conducting research, so thatreviewers select your research proposal.Students will prepare a formal, typed proposal for a study that they (or an organization of which theyare a member) may actually carry out. Note that in this class, students will develop a researchproposal, but do not conduct data collection or data analysis. In other words, you will just plan yourresearch project. Your research proposal should be original, and not based on earlier work for whichthey\’ve received credit.
