Statement of IntentThe statement of intent introduces you to the Admissions Committee as an individual, and not only showcases your personality but how you are unique as compared to other applicants with a similar profile. It is recommended that the statement of intent be approximately 1 to 2 pages in length, and should outline details around but not limited to the following:• Why you want to enter the program• What your career goals are• How the strengths of the program match your career goals and will support you in achieving them• What you will contribute towards the programUltimately, the statement of intent reveals important information about which candidates will contribute to and benefit the most from the program.Program OverviewThe Alberta MBA is a two-year MBA program. Year one begins with Orientation at the end of August. Over year one, you will complete core MBA courses that provide you with a strong understanding of management essentials. After completing a summer internship, year two begins. Year two allows you to focus your studies on specific areas of interest or complete a specialization.OrientationThe Alberta MBA begins in August each year with a week long orientation built around SMO 652: Leadership Skills. Following orientation, the MBA Association organizes a weekend retreat to the Rocky Mountains.Core CurriculumYear one of the MBA program is focused on business fundamentals. Over the Fall (September – December) and Winter (January – April) terms, you will work within a team of four or five students to develop functional business knowledge and critical thinking skills. You are encouraged to work closely with the MBA Career Management Centre to secure an internship.Electives & SpecializationsAlong with our MBA Capstone course (Business Strategy), the second year of the MBA allows you to tailor the degree to your own interests. Roughly half of Alberta MBA students complete the General MBA by choosing from our elective courses. You would also have the opportunity to complete one of our six specializations:• Finance• Innovation & Entrepreneurship• International Business• Natural Resources, Energy & Environment• Public Policy & Management• Sustainability
