Our first three segments this semester have led us through a journey of over four hundred years. Art helped deliver western civilization from the dark ages as we started this semester with the incredible Renaissance era. We then explored the further art-driven transformation into the Baroque era, with its own character, spread across Europe. The Enlightenment era, with the movements of Neo Classicism & Romanticism, round out our first-half of the semester’s study (Neo classicism review today, Romanticism on Friday).
We have dealt with a wealth of relevant information, and now it is time to revisit that information with a fresh & developed perspective. A valuable asset to this understanding will come through this writing project for midterm.
This will be an essay review of our study so far. The essay will cover what have you have learned about human creative & cultural evolution from our study, to this point.
What you will be graded on: Essential issues, objects / artifacts, dates, events, and influences must be examined thoroughly. Personal insight and reasoning will be very important in support of factual elements & particulars, I do not want a simple rundown of stock elements from the text. I will be looking for your own voice involved in narrating the information that is presented by you. This is not a typical research essay project.
I need to see within your writing that you are working with the material, thoroughly considering it and not just replaying it. I want to see your personal insight, conversational but with adequate formality. Use the correct terminology and spelling in creating a mature collegiate document.
Remember: This essay project reveals your understanding of the material, and is not meant to be just a checklist in answer form. Move through the segments: Renaissance – Baroque – Enlightenment, presenting a thorough & authored thesis of your understanding.
