Visit the Nobel Prize in Literature web site(www.nobelprize.org/literature), choose a Nobel Laureate, and read the related information,(biography, lecture, banquet speech, etc.)Do your best to understand this writers ideas abouth the canon of literature. Then read a work by that author and apply the author’s own criteria(as stated in the speech or lecture) to the work. Does the work fit in the author’s own canon? if so, where does it fit especially well? where does it seem to miss the mark? if it misses the mark entirely, does the author account for such misses? What do the critics say about the authors work? Are they right? You might also consider researching nobel’s selection of that author. What is the Nobel criteria? How does the wothor meet those standards?
