Stating that lengthy bureaucratic process of management in Big firms is a major weakness, is stating the obvious.
Most large businesses have bureaucratic organization and are risk aversive. Examples of bureaucracies in the public sector include Environmental Protection Agency, the Social Security Administration and Public Universities and among the big Privates sector firms such as IBM, GM and the Union Pacific Railroad. Most Large organizations have complex operations and need to have clearly defined structures (Hierarchy and rational-legal decision making rules) in place to help achieve its goals (Grimsley, n. d.)
However, excessive bureaucracy and risk averseness by big businesses hamper their ability to be innovative which could risk its survival in a turbulent and dynamic context. In this way among others, bureaucracy can be a major weakness. By allowing some flexibility in organizational operations and reducing its structure strategically can bring about speedy execution of task which is contributive to Firms overall strategy.
