Occupational Safety & Health Issues in the News

Assignment #2:  Occupational Safety & Health Issues in the News

Select TWO articles on occupational safety and health that recently appeared in a newspaper, journal, or magazine (from year 2010 to date) and REVIEW the articles.  For example, the BP Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico (2010), the coal mine disaster in Montocoal West Virginia (2010), the roof collapse of the Minnesota Vikings Stadium (2010), etc.  You choose the articles but make it current and interesting from an occupational safety & health viewpoint.   The two articles need NOT be related but should highlight an occupational safety and/or health issue that made the news.

Start your paper by SUMMARIZING each of the articles in about HALF a page, giving full details of what exactly happened.  Use subheadings to identify each article.

After summarizing each article, select only ONE of them and briefly comment on it, i.e. state your position regarding the safety issue(s) raised in the article; what can be learned from the accident; and give THREE recommendations on how such accidents can be avoided in the future.  Make sure use APA style (6th Ed) for each of the articles at the end of the assignment.  Length is 2-3 pages.
