Presentation on the Importance of Studying Abroad

Presentation on the Importance of Studying Abroad
The speech was effectively organized into ideas. The ideas are effectively classified into three categories; reasons for studying abroad, needs for employing individuals who studied abroad, and the benefits derived from studying abroad. The idea flow between the paragraphs is effective. This illustrates the smooth transition of one theme of study to the next.
The speech ensures proper understanding by the audience. The main points were highlighted during the presentation. This ensured that the audience concentrates properly on the three major points. The three points illustrate the objectives of the presentation; the audience clearly illustrated sufficient achievement of the objectives.
The student effectively made use of tonal variations in the presentation. He highlighted the key points in the research; through high and relatively formal tone. This adequately captured the attention of the audience, towards the main objectives of the study. The explanatory aspects of the presentation had a reduced tone, which is relaxed. The explanation tone creates flexibility in the process of explanation as even jokes are incorporated.
The student applied non verbal communication properly during the presentation. Hand gestures were used to stress the main points discussed in the study. Example entails gesturing one through the finger to illustrate the first objective of the study. The facial expression was relaxed and exciting, when the student explained the benefits of studying abroad, for instance, learning a second language.
The presentation clearly describes the several reasons why students study abroad. These reasons are all aimed towards building the competencies of the students. The competencies of the student that are improved through learning abroad include; knowledge, communication, attitudes, skills and experience. One of the reasons for studying abroad entails the sharing of culture. The student is effectively able to educate others on his or her cultural practices and beliefs. Likewise the student learns about the cultural practices of the country he or she is learning in. cultures illustrate the common artifacts, language, concepts and ideas that are shared by a given society. The American culture is very different from the Asian culture. The American culture is very liberal, and accommodates divergent issues and beliefs. On the contrary, the Asian culture is very conservative, and divergent opinion is rarely tolerated. Learning abroad enables the student to observe the world through different perspective. For instance, the political system applicable in different countries is unique and different. The United States embraces the democratic form of government, where voters are periodically given opportunity to elect their leaders. Most countries in Africa and Asia experience dictatorial political systems. This is because the political leaders make all major decisions, and they do not tolerate divergent opinions. In Africa and Asia, it is common for government leader to rule for several decades. Learning abroad enables the student to be independent and financially responsible. This is because the student is expected to make his/her own decisions. Examples of decisions include; the degree major to choose, the research topic to use in scientific inquiry, and the friend to keep. The student is also expected to budget his or her finances. The budget should illustrate the travel expenses, tuition fees, accommodation fees, and stationery costs.
The presentation also adequately explains why employers prefer to hire individuals who have pursued their higher education or training abroad. This is mainly because of the international exposure and understanding that learning abroad generates. Learning abroad enhances the cross-cultural communication. This ensures effective exchange of information and understanding between individuals of diverse cultures. Learning abroad enables students to have adequate proficiency in foreign languages; for instance, a student who goes to France for studies may develop adequate proficiency in the French language. Employees who studied abroad can effectively communicate with the diverse international customer base. Employees who studied abroad have adequate understanding of working in different multicultural environments. If the employer is a multinational corporation with branches in different countries; then the employees will be effective. This is because they can comfortably work in any branch of the company, in any country, due to their international exposure. The employees, who studied abroad, can also effectively relate, communicate and work with the international stakeholders. Customers, regardless of their country of origin, prefer to communicate with a company representative who understands his or her culture. Employees who studied abroad can effectively assist their employer in future plans for international travel or graduate application. The employers can plan to travel, so as to meet international stakeholders such as customers, suppliers and financiers. The employee can then train the employer of the most appropriate cultural practices such as; dressing code, body language communications, hospitality and official and unofficial meeting practices. The employer can also decide to enroll for graduate studies in foreign universities. The employee will be helpful in explaining the admission and travel processes.
The presentation also informs the audience on the key benefits to the student. Studying abroad enhances the communication abilities of the student. This is because; the student gets adequate understanding of the cross-cultural communication process. The student is also better able to understand the body language communication pattern across the different countries and cultures. For instance, the body language in the American culture is very different from that applied in the Asian culture. Studying abroad enables the student to understand the body language communication pasterns in both America and Asia. Communication is also enhanced through the ability of the student to share information with an international audience. Studying abroad enables the student to improve college credits and at the same time travel. High college credit will enable the student to graduate with a superior degree qualification. Enhanced credit is achieved through adequate understanding of the degree course as applicable in different countries or diverse cultures. The travelling enhances the global exposure that the student gets; for instance, the exposure of studying in a different country. The student who travels abroad benefits from understanding a new language and even acquiring a second language. The new language is acquired through practicing speaking with the locals. Daily speaking practice will ensure proficiency in the foreign language. For instance, a foreign student in Germany can understand the German language through continuous listening and speaking, and being open to language corrections. The student can also acquire a second language, if his or her competency improves. Adequate competency illustrates proficiency or fluency in both spoken and written aspects. The second language can be used to share information and understanding the foreign country.
The presenter managed to effectively control anxiety and personality. The personality was effective because of the eye contact the presenter had with the audience. The appropriate eye contact ensured concentration of the audience, and the effectiveness of communication. The presenter managed anxiety through involving the audience in the presentation. This is through encouraging questions and comments of the presentation. He effectively provided answers and also asked the audience to further paraphrase the answers to ensure understanding.
The works cited was not adequate. A research study should comprise several peer reviewed or scholarly sources. The peer reviewed sources illustrates information that has been adequately discussed by experts in the field. Peer review works enhance professionalism in the presentation.
I recommend that the student explains the challenges of studying abroad in the next presentation. Foreign students experience certain negative issues and problems. The negative challenges include; stereotyping, cultural shock, limited communication, and in worse cases discrimination. An appropriate presentation must also illustrate the measures of minimizing the problems or challenges of studying abroad.
