Professional Development Plan (PDP): Articulating Your Vision: Introduction, Strengths and Weaknesses, and Goals Sections

Directions:

You will utilize knowledge and skills developed in this course to begin creation of your Professional Development Plan (PDP). This important document will become part of your final BSN ePortfolio.

Your PDP will be completed during Units 4 and 9 of this course.

The Unit 4 portion of your PDP includes three sections:

an introduction;

a discussion of your strengths and weaknesses; and

a discussion of your professional goals.

Introduction:

Introduce yourself providing a discussion of your personal and professional background.

Incorporate the professional/personal values that influenced your professional journey.

This section should contain 1–2 paragraphs.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Create two paragraphs. The first paragraph will contain a discussion of your personal and professional strengths.

The second paragraph will contain a discussion of your personal and professional weaknesses.

Throughout this section, please incorporate findings from your Unit 3 Leadership Inventory Assignment along with any additional thoughts.

Goals:

Create 2 paragraphs. The first paragraph will be a summary of your three short-term professional goals (to be accomplished within 1 year).

The second paragraph will be a discussion of three long-term professional goals of your choosing (to be accomplished within more than 1 year).

All professional goals must be clear, achievable, and measurable with a proposed completion date.

Goals, as well as the entirety of the paper, should be written in narrative format rather than using bullet points.

You may address areas such as education, professional enhancement, community service, political or professional organization involvement, committee membership, publishing, or future career positions as potential goal choices.

To format your document, please refer to the guidance provided in your Unit 4 Activities. These explain use of the Basic Template found under the APA Templates and Tutorials heading in the course.

Please include one to two references in APA format on a separate reference page with hanging indent(s) and be sure all corresponding references are correctly cited within the body of your paper.
